DAILYJILI Doblado: The Two-to-One Call, Settled Five Ways
In cockpit usage doblado is a two-to-one call: the backer of the favoured bird, the llamado, puts up double what the backer of the other bird, the dehado, puts up.
Key facts and contents
- DAILYJILI Bitaw
- In cockpit usage a bitaw is a sparring or practice bout between gamefowl, used for conditioning and for judging a bird, with no blade fitted and no wagering.
- DAILYJILI Fighting Cock
- In a published set of derby rules a cock is a matured rooster past its first annual molt, a stag is a young rooster of twelve months or younger, and a bullstag is a stag older than twelve months.
- DAILYJILI History of Sabong
- The earliest account on this page is Pigafetta's, from the 1521 voyage, describing tame cocks made to fight for a stake.
- DAILYJILI Larga
- Larga, from Spanish largar, to let go, is the cockpit call at which both birds are released and the fight is under way.
- DAILYJILI Parehas Explained
- In a licensed cockpit, parehas is an even call: both sides put up the same amount, so whoever wins collects what they staked, less the bet taker's commission.
- DAILYJILI Pusta Meaning
- Pusta is Tagalog for a bet or stake; the KWF dictionary glosses it as taya.
Nationwide, e-sabong operations have been suspended since 2022 by Executive Order No. 9, signed on 28 December 2022 by President Marcos Jr. Doblado is a cockpit word, and it names an uneven stake. The backer of the favoured bird puts up double what the backer of the other bird puts up.
What doblado names, and what it does not
A published set of derby rules defines the llamado as the cock with the bigger center bet and the dejado as the cock with the smaller one. The KWF online dictionary (diksiyonaryo.ph) spells the smaller side dehado, and describes it, in sense 1, as the one with the smaller pusta. Doblado fixes the size of the gap at two to one. Its KWF entry carries no cockpit meaning, so the call itself is cockpit usage.
| Parehas | Doblado | |
|---|---|---|
| Llamado backer stakes | Same as the other side | Double the other side |
| Dehado backer stakes | Same as the other side | Half of the llamado’s stake |
| Stakes level? | Yes | No |
The page on the parehas even call explained gives the level case in full.
Five worked settlements
The peso amounts are chosen for easy arithmetic and are examples only. Commission is left out, because Presidential Decree 449, section 4(c), has the bet taker deduct a certain commission without stating a rate. Each numbered case is one settlement.
- Doblado, llamado wins: the dehado backer put up ₱500 and the llamado backer ₱1,000. The llamado backer collects the ₱500 and keeps their ₱1,000.
- Doblado, dehado wins: the same stakes. The dehado backer collects the ₱1,000 and keeps their ₱500.
- Doblado at a smaller size, llamado wins: ₱100 against ₱200. The llamado backer collects ₱100.
- Doblado at a smaller size, dehado wins: the same stakes. The dehado backer collects ₱200.
- Parehas for contrast: ₱1,000 against ₱1,000. Whichever side wins collects ₱1,000.
| Case | Llamado stake | Dehado stake | Winner | Winner collects, before commission |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ₱1,000 | ₱500 | Llamado | ₱500 |
| 2 | ₱1,000 | ₱500 | Dehado | ₱1,000 |
| 3 | ₱200 | ₱100 | Llamado | ₱100 |
| 4 | ₱200 | ₱100 | Dehado | ₱200 |
| 5 | ₱1,000 | ₱1,000 | Either | ₱1,000 |
Reading the table
Look at cases 1 and 2. The smaller stake collects more when it wins, which is why the llamado’s side puts up double to match a smaller one. Whichever side wins, the total in play stays ₱1,500 in the first pair and ₱300 in the second pair.
The derby rules also describe pago, a bet solicited to augment the dehado’s center bet so that it equalizes the llamado’s bet. When pago closes the whole gap, the call turns into parehas; when it does not, the unmatched part stays uneven.
Where doblado sits in the cockpit
The birds in these settlements are cocks, stags or bullstags, and the page on what makes a fighting cock defines each term. Bitaw is a separate word again, covered on the page about bitaw and sparring sessions.
| Word | Where it is covered |
|---|---|
| Cock, stag, bullstag | The fighting-cock page |
| Bitaw | The bitaw page |
| Parehas | The parehas page |
Presidential Decree 449, section 5(f), allows no other gambling on the premises during cockfights. Executive Order No. 9 suspends online, remote and off-cockpit wagering on live cockfights, and it leaves traditional cockfights licensed under existing laws outside the suspension. How the executive order reads on cockpits quotes its scope.
